Every now & then you see or hear something in the media that strikes you as a perfect articulation of the spirit of the age. This interview is striking in its pungent blend of defiant narcissism & faux wisdom. Some takeaways:
1) Nothing is real in pop culture. Credit Miley for acknowledging that her performance at the MTV music awards was “planned” for the sake of attention & sales. Ironically, those who profess “this is just who I am” are usually the most disingenuous & cynical.
2) Being ‘true to yourself’ is the greater good. Parents should preach it, kids should practice it. Apparently only the old and/or ignorant disagree.
3) Pop culture will continue to bastardize love. Love is more than the mere unconditional acceptance of what is especially when “acceptance” is synonymous with “affirmation.” Love, in that sense, will never exist until all that is is made good.
